About John Duerksen

John received a Bachelor of Environmental Design degree at the University of Manitoba in 2009. From there, he completed his Master of Architecture degree at the U of M in 2011, receiving the Canadian Architect Student Award of Excellence for his final thesis. In 2013, with a desire to focus on residential projects, John founded Harbor Building Workshop, now John Duerksen Architecture.

John grew up spending time at the lake with his family and working on many construction projects with his dad. This spurred a passion for architecture and it’s connection to the outdoors. With an admittedly modernist design sensibility, coupled with his background in wood-frame construction, John finds opportunity to create unique spaces that embrace the context in which they’re built.

John is a registered architect with both the Manitoba Association of Architects and the Ontario Association of Architects.
